Open Day 2025

2025 President Communication

March 2025

Dear Members,
Michelle has just produced an excellent and very comprehensive newsletter. Many thanks to
her for this as it will set you up well for the season ahead.
However, there are some other issues which necessitate information and explanations all of
which have happened since the AGM in November. Bob Chalmers has continued to act as
Chairperson since then, despite difficulties which have now come to something of a head.
He is not able to attend meetings easily and though happy to work from home when he can,
is standing back somewhat. He and I discussed this potential situation a while ago and
decided to ask Martin Clark to help us while matters were uncertain. So, for the foreseeable
future, Martin and I will try to keep things ticking over and any issues which you would have
expected Bob to deal with we’ll try our best to help.
We are very fortunate in having an excellent committee and Walter and Val will be strong
pillars as Captain and Vice-Captain respectively.
We have been concentrating on how best to utilise John Northover’s legacy money. The first
definite decision which has been made, is that we shall invest in new/updated floodlights.
Bob is already on the task and with help from Kevin we hope he will be able to complete the
project as soon as possible.
The kitchen too must have attention. It’s condition and appearance are poor and this will
form another legacy project. Your suggestions will be very much appreciated on what we
might do.
The final project will wrap around the intention to improve both the men’s and the ladies’
changing rooms. This is more difficult to determine as the lack of floor area for the ladies
must be addressed and some possible solutions are too expensive. We have been round
these issues many times but we have to produce a strategy and detailed plan and soon.
Once the money needed for the floodlights and kitchen has been ascertained, we can then
see what we can get for the rest of our money to improve conditions for every member of the
club.
So, what next? Well, we have our official season opening on WEDNESDAY 2 nd APRILfrom
6 to 8 in the Clubhouse. We would love to see you and hope you will enjoy the wine and
nibbles provided. Neil will be there If you have not yet paid your subs, but, as you know, it
saves money for the club if you pay electronically, and we urge you to do so. At the opening
do make your views made known about the legacy projects. We need to get cracking!
WEDNESDAY, 9 th APRIL is the green opening and the first day on which you can bowl any
time after 10.00am. (Weather permitting of course!)
I hope you will all have a highly enjoyable and successful season. We really shall have to
work together to make lasting progress for the club and with the projects it will be a key year.
Your support, good humour (and entering your omissions!!!!) will be much valued by
everyone in the club.

2025 Management Meetings

Propositions that will be voted on during the AGM are:

1. I propose that :

Unless playing in a match against another club, to allow members to wear what they like in club comps etc as long as they wear flat shoes on the green.

L Snelgrove 09/24

2. I propose that :

The club reduce evening matches to 14 ends and start later so that people who work for a living can get involved.

The club competition trophies and prizes will be presented after conclusion of the AGM.
