Dear Members,

We have now received the 'go-ahead' from the Sports Club to open on Monday 1st June. Hurrah!

All the information you need is on the website and we shall be organising access to an electronic booking system.

In practice we have been advised by Bowls England not to open fully and the notes prepared for you indicate the session times with the green closed on Wednesdays.  In the second week we are offering two specific sessions for those who may be considered in the “bit more at risk” category and hope this is of help to those who might want more reassurance in order to play.  The first two weeks will be something of a trial as we see how the arrangements plan out and your response to them.  There may well be a few hitches along the way too, so don’t hesitate to contact any committee members if you have questions.

You will also have realised that the Government is constantly changing  the rules governing social interaction. As yet Bowls England have not had time to see if the PM’s announcement of yesterday will have any effect on expanding what we can do.  So we must be content in the first instance with the limited play we can experience; still better than nothing!

Please remember there are to be no spectators or casual dropping in to play.  For those of you who are booking in as a single player we can sort out on the day if you want to bowl alone or pair you up with someone else.  It will depend on rink demand.

It will all feel very strange, no shaking of hands, two metres distancing, lots of disinfectant, anti-bacterial sprays, hand gels and a mantra of don’t touch anything including each other!

Again please ensure you have your own hand gels or wipes, any sprays you may want to use and remain very alert.  If you are like me, you will feel that it is still very dangerous out there with the R value so high.  So we all have a very special responsibility to ourselves and each other as we open up for our sport.  Do read all the guidelines and take them seriously.

I’d like to thank all those who have been involved in getting us to this point when we can actually contemplate stepping on the green!  It’s been quite a challenge!

So, I can say now, “good bowling” and let’s hope we can build up a season to remember and really enjoy.

Very best wishes to you all.
